Nicola Bald Photography is a specialist in family photography based in Edinburgh’s West End. Led by Nicola and an experienced all-female team with over 20 years’ collective experience, we bring a warm, relaxed approach that helps even the most camera-shy children (and grown-ups) feel at ease. Our custom-created studio behind Haymarket train station is designed for families: two studio spaces, a baby room, a boudoir lounge and a private viewing suite where you can relax and choose your images. We provide a stocked beauty room and changing facilities so sessions are comfortable from start to finish. For newborns our baby-led approach prioritises safety and calm — we swaddle and pose with patience, allowing feeds and breaks so we get natural, timeless baby portraits. We specialise in a full family photography journey: maternity bump sessions that transition into newborn shoots, sitter and baby sessions that track early milestones, and joyful first-birthday Cake Smash & Splash experiences. Our themed children’s sessions (fairies, superheroes and action lifestyle) are carefully staged to spark imagination and capture authentic reactions — storytelling and playful direction are at the heart of how we work with kids. How we work: every shoot begins with a friendly consultation so we can match colours, outfits and props to your vision. On the day we create a relaxed atmosphere, directing poses while encouraging natural interaction. After the session we present your images in our media suite — many clients enjoy same-day viewings — and our in-house retouching (airbrushing and careful finishing) ensures each selected image is studio-ready. We offer a curated range of art products including canvas blocks, montage panels, albums and unique newborn keepsakes so your portraits become heirloom pieces.
