Hi — I’m Clare, the portrait photographer behind Edinburgh Portrait Studio. With over 20 years of experience and a BA (Hons) in Photography and Media, I specialise in family photography across Edinburgh. I believe family portraits should celebrate the real connections between you — the small everyday moments, the laughter, the quiet glances — and become the kind of artwork you’ll be proud to display for generations. Why choose me? I’m not a high-volume studio. I deliberately don’t book sessions back-to-back so I can take the time each family needs. Young children change so quickly and some little ones need time to warm up; patience and gentle direction are part of my approach. My relaxed, conversational style helps even the most camera-shy family members feel at ease, and I use simple, considered lighting and composition to produce timeless, fine-art portraits rather than trendy snapshots. How I work with families: before your session we’ll talk about what matters to you — the images you want on your walls, any props or outfits you’d like to include, and how to make the session relaxed and enjoyable. In studio I aim to create a calm atmosphere so we can capture natural interactions as well as posed group portraits. I welcome props and wardrobe choices, and my studio is easily accessible with plentiful off-street parking (250+ spaces) and a lift. Specialist care for children and newborns: I have lots of strategies to help children feel comfortable and my newborn work is entirely baby-led — we take breaks as needed and never rush a session. My experience means I know how to balance patience with creative direction to get beautiful, authentic images. I invest in training every year and have been recognised by well-respected photographic organisations, continually refining my craft so I can offer you exceptional portraits.
