I’m Fliss van Steenbergen, a Kidlington photographer who specialises in family photography. I believe the best family portraits are the ones that feel honest and lived-in, not posed or forced. Working exclusively in black and white lets me remove visual distractions and concentrate on expression, connection and gesture—so the images you receive feel timeless and true to your family. My approach is relaxed and conversational. Years of teaching visual arts and running an after-school photography club mean I’m used to working with children of all ages — from toddlers to teenagers — and I know how to put even the most camera-shy family members at ease. I’ll chat, play and sometimes be a little silly to elicit natural reactions, then quietly photograph those in-between moments that reveal personality and relationships. I favour natural settings around Kidlington and the Oxfordshire area, using light and composition to create simple, honest portraits. My background in making architectural abstracts informs the way I see contrast, texture and form, which strengthens the graphic quality of my black and white work and gives portraits a clean, uncluttered look.
