I’m Ashleigh Black and family photography is at the heart of Ash Black Photography. Based on Hayling Island and working across West Sussex, I specialise in creating relaxed, natural family photos that feel timeless rather than staged. My aim is simple: to capture the real connections between you and your loved ones — the quiet smiles, the small gestures and the honest moments that become treasured portraits. Why choose me? I’ve been photographing families since founding Ash Black Photography in 2012, and my background in graphic design (20 years) gives me a strong eye for composition, light and storytelling. I blend that visual experience with a gentle, calm approach so even shy children and new parents feel at ease. I’m CRB approved and happy to work on location in the beautiful West Sussex countryside, on the beach or in your home using my mobile studio when a controlled setting is preferred. My style is understated and emotive — less pouts & more smiles. I focus on lighting, composition and real expression to produce family portraits that look elegant on the wall and honest in your albums. Sessions are tailored to your family: for most shoots we spend 1–2 hours together to allow children to warm up and for genuine moments to unfold; newborn sessions can take up to 3 hours to ensure comfort and gentle pacing. How I work: we start with a friendly conversation — by phone, Zoom or in person — to discuss location, outfits and the look you’d like. On the day I keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal so you can enjoy being together; that’s when the best images happen. After the shoot I carefully edit each selected image to deliver a beautiful set of portraits that represent your family’s personality.
